The four time All-Star and 2019 World Series champion signed a record deal of $765 million, a 15 year contract with the Mets, and made it official on Wednesday, December 11th.
Juan Soto agreed to leave the Yankees for the Mets on Sunday, and on Wednesday, he finalized his deal with the Mets and made it official after passing his physical exam.
Soto will get a $75 million signing bonus with the contract. He will earn $46,875,000 in 2025 and 2026, $42.5 million in 2027, $46,875,00 again in 2028 and 2029 and for the last 10 seasons he will earn $46 million. The deal overtook Shohei Ohtani’s 10 year $700 million dollar contract signed back in 2023 for the largest contract in professional sports history.
“Obviously, we wanted the player back. Ownership and the front office did everything we could to make it happen, but it just didn’t,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said about losing Soto. [1]
“Today’s signing further solidifies our organizational commitment to consistent championship competitiveness, not only does Juan provide historic levels of on field production, but his joy, intensity, and passion for the game mirror our budding culture.”, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said. Students at AFYW also had reactions to the Soto signing. 11th grader Adam Collado who is a fan of both the Mets and the Yankees said,“It’s an amazing move that will either make or break the Mets future”.
