Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been entering schools, workplaces, and houses without showing proof of court orders to enter. Many kids, adults, and families have been affected since 2003, following the 9/11 attacks but recently in 2026 over 20 years later, ICE has made its biggest impact yet.
With ICE raiding schools, students are scared to go to the place they are supposed to feel the safest.
ICE has two main divisions: One of them is Enforcement and Removal Operations(ERO), which identifies, detains and deports individuals who are in the country without legal status. The other one is Homeland Security Investigations(HSI) and these two major parts were created as a way to keep criminal and dangerous people off of our streets.
Yet for the last two years especially, they’ve done the complete opposite. Many people believe if you were not born somewhere, you do not belong to breathe the same air as them. But as a population and just a human being that is completely the wrong mindset.
Many supporters of ICE argue that the agents play a significant role in protecting the public’s safety. They believe anyone should be taken, even if it’s a 70 year old man who was just selling food for his family, wanting to provide for them without having much. While the people that scream you’re an immigrant get home to warm houses and full course meals, how is it fair when a 5-year-old gets detained?
How can a five year old boy ever be a criminal all he wanted to do was get to school?
And even then this is one of MANY cases where ICE has used people of color or people who are from a different country to target them when they are never provoking them, Many people fear for their elders going outside, just because even if ICE sees a peaceful person who isn’t from the states, they will take you without reading your rights or asking you for any proof of identification, which is illegal. But no one seems to care when it benefits them and puts money in their pockets.
