Valentine’s Day is a holiday celebrated all around the world on February 14th of every year that is a day to show your love and affection. People celebrate this magical day by spending time with their romantic partners, flowers, hearts etc. This day is not just for couples but for showing love to friends and family, and self-love. Our school(AFYW) was planning for Valentine’s day, two clubs in our school were in the spotlight as National Honor Society and My Sister’s Keeper spread love throughout the school building.
National Honor Society is a club in AFYW where students with high academic achievement are recognized. For this year’s Valentine’s Day, NHS celebrated this day through giving back gifts called Crush Grams. Crush Grams allow students and staff to order a Crush soda with some candies and a note from the giver for the receiver. This is the second annual Crush Gram sale that NHS held, and they continued on with this Crush Gram saying its “Soda lightful” to spread love in the school. Ms. Indira, the advisor of NHS, recommends the Crush Gram as it’s affordable for all, and if you buy you are supporting a good cause as the money will be put to good use.
NHS also shared the Valentine’s spirit within their club by holding the Hearts and Honors luncheon, where members came together to eat and share what they love about one another and the club. Certificates were even handed out to dedicated members of the club, recognizing their accomplishments and commitment to NHS.
My Sister’s Keeper (MSK), is another club within the school who are giving back to their community through Valentine’s Day. MSK is a club where female students in high school come together to talk about womanhood which fosters a supportive and understanding sisterhood. MSK is not just a school club, but a district club, meaning other schools also have the club MSK and are able to interact with these other ladies through events. For another year MSK held their Candy Grams which a buyer can get a letter, flowers, a stuffed animal, and candy for a range of prices where you will get different items based on the type of order you buy. For a receiver, MSK recommends people to come to them for Valentine’s day as you will be able to get good things for a reasonable price. The money goes to good causes, and the gifts are meaningful and thoughtful. They take a lot of pride in their Candy Grams.
MSK celebrates Valentine’s day within their safe space holding different things for these ladies. MSK held a Galentine’s Party where the members gathered together to eat with one another in a calm and enjoyable environment within their club. These ladies talked with one another in light conversations and shared what they love.
