I’m only 17 years old, and Mike Kafka is the seventh head coach the New York Giants have had in my lifetime. He was hired last week after they fired Brian Daboll, who gave us four miserable years as head coach. And that’s just a small idea of what it’s like to be a Giants fan. It’s definitely not easy.
The Giants last made the playoffs when I was 14, and before that, I was only 8 years old. In other words, I have not been a witness to a lot of winning with this franchise. In fact they have been one of the worst teams in the NFL over the past several years. As a die-hard fan, I’m desperate.
What is it going to take for this team to start winning again? And by “again”, I mean they have won four Super Bowls in their history, including their last one when I was 4 years old. For obvious reasons, I don’t remember that championship run. But I do remember all the losing, and it absolutely sucks.
I interviewed my father, a long time Giants fan, and he had this to say about the current state of his favorite team: “The Giants have some good pieces that can help this team win on both sides of the ball.” My dad, who’s been a Giants fan for more than 40 years, has seen it all. “I saw the four championships but I’ve also seen the worst of the worst, I do have hope.”
Although, there is a glimmer of hope. We have a new quarterback Jaxson Dart who seems to be the real deal. Dart along with our amazing wide receiver Malik Nabers should provide us some winning in the near future. I just hope it’s not too far away, I don’t want to be 27 or 37 writing another article about how they have yet to win. For now though, let’s go Giants.
