An exciting new reveal from Capcom at the Game Awards on December 11, 2025 has fans of Resident Evil in a chokehold. The newest installment of the iconic survival-horror franchise, Resident Evil Requiem, releasing on February 27, 2026, will include the return of fan-favorite character Leon S. Kennedy, along with other important information about the game’s release. According to the PlayStation Blog, this installment is set to bring back familiar characters while introducing new gameplay dynamics that longtime fans are almost guaranteed to love.
“Along with FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, it has been announced that Leon S. Kennedy will be joining as the second protagonist of the game.” This confirmation immediately got Resident Evil fans excited, as Leon is considered one of the most beloved characters in the series.
The announcement also talks about how the game will include campaigns for both Leon and Grace, each of which will have different gameplay styles split between survival-horror and a dynamic, action-packed experience for players. “Their contrasting gameplay styles and intertwined stories deliver a dual experience that will be sure to chill players to their very core.” With these different approaches to combat, investigation and survival, Capcom’s goal is to keep the game fresh while maintaining the tense atmosphere Resident Evil is known for.
Raynold Seraphin, a sophomore at the Academy for Young Writers and a fan of the most recent Resident Evil entries, believes the game has the potential to become the very best in the franchise. “I think that RE Requiem is going to be a top-tier Resident Evil game. The reason why I said this is because it’s going to introduce my favorite character, Leon S. Kennedy, as one of the protagonists in the game,” he said. He also noted that, as of recently, the series has focused on remakes and remasters, making this new entry feel like a breath of fresh air.
Raynold added that Leon’s experience makes him a strong addition to the story. “I think Leon is going to be a very good addition to the story because of his experience throughout the series,” he said. “One of my favorite Resident Evil games, Resident Evil 4, is one of the best games in the series that portrays Leon as a legendary character.”
For many fans like Raynold, Leon’s return is highlighted by nostalgia and excitement for both old and new players.
